Welcome
MEET THE AUTHOR

I hate writing about myself in the third person because it feels so awkward – while it may seem less professional, let’s hope it’s more personal. I’m a Métis writer, and my main focus is young adult fantasy fiction and everything magical. (What is life without a bit of whimsy?) Because that’s not enough, I also dabble in adult and middle-grade fiction, but always with a speculative or magical realism element.
I live in Redwater, a small town North of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada with my boyfriend, our four children, three dogs, and two cats. It’s a little chaotic.
When I’m not writing, I work in municipal finance. (Math. Eww!) It fuels the household and my vehicle but not my soul. Cue the writing.
As of December 2023, I have completed the Creative Writing Certificate through the University of Calgary’s Continuing Education program. I am a member and past treasurer for the Writers’ Guild of Alberta and a member of the Alexandra Writers Centre Society (AWCS). I also have the honour of being one of the AWCS’s manuscript reviewers for the 2023/2024 year. I am currently the Chairperson on the board of the Redwater Public Library.
My unpublished young adult fantasy novel, Shadow of the Moon, was short-listed for ECW Press’s Best New Speculative Fiction Novel in 2022. I was also able to re-work this novel earlier this year (2023) as I was an apprentice in the WGA’s mentorship program. I have added elements of my Métis heritage and the folklore into the story. I also won first place in the 6th Annual Kemosa Scholarship for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Mothers Who Write with Shadow of the Moon in 2023.
In June 2019, I was short-listed for the Writers’ Guild of Alberta Jon Whyte Memorial Essay literary award. In February 2019, I won first place in the 2nd Annual Kemosa Scholarship for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Mothers Who Write. Shadow of the Moon was also short-listed in 2017 for the Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators, and Performers (CANSCAIP) Writing for Children Competition.

“Writing is a lonely job. Having someone who believes in you makes a lot of difference. They don’t have to make speeches. Just believing is usually enough.”
